Who We Are
Founder and Director Bryan Miller
Bryan Miller was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, where he also spent his childhood and teenage years. He learned piano from a young age because his mom played and encouraged it. In 4th grade he decided to take on trumpet so he could join the school band. Eventually, his brother started taking guitar lessons but decided not to continue, so Bryan asked his mom if he could try guitar. His brother then switched to drums and taught Bryan how to play them. By high school he already played several instruments proficiently.
Bryan graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Trumpet Performance, a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, and a Master's Degree in Music Education. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, Bryan directed the university’s Jazz Arts II Ensemble as well as WSU’s Afro-Cuban band, La Banda Hispánica.
Over the years Bryan has played keyboards, trumpet, and guitar with local jazz, rock, and party bands, including the Air Capital Big Band and The Source. His own band, Zeyen, played in Hutchinson and Wichita for a period of time.
Before devoting his time to Miller Music, Bryan was the Director of Music for both instrumental and vocal, along with Musical Director for the theatre department at Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School. Later he became Director of Choral Studies at Maize South High School.
Upon first being hired at Kapaun, there was no band program. Over the years, Bryan built the band program from scratch, eventually getting the band not only competitive at State but earning I ratings at the State Large Group Festival.
During the time he was the musical director for KMC’s music theatre department from 2004-2007, Bryan was awarded Music Theatre of Wichita's Jester Award for Best Musical Director in both 2004 for Into the Woods and 2005 for Anything Goes. Over the years, all of Bryan’s groups have received numerous Superior “I” ratings at the KSHSAA State Large Group Festival as well as the Regional and State Small Ensemble Festival.
Bryan has a certified teaching license issued by the state of Kansas for vocal and instrumental music in grades K-12.
